There are a few moments that stand out in my mind from this year. I remember the look of devotion and light on the face of Rosa Barassa after receiving the ashes during Mass on Ash Wednesday. Seeing Five-year-old twins Mozely and Hazel Martin tromping along South Boulder Creek could have been the beginning of any fairy tale. As twelve-year-old Kenidey Effling leaned on her cow Skittles waiting for a spot to open in the cattle washing area at the National Western Stock Show, everything about her body language read true exhaustion.
I saw Jared Polis given the Oath of Office as Governor of Denver by Chief Justice Nathan B. Coats during his Inauguration. Not long after that, I was back at the statehouse as Jane Dougherty who lost her sister, Mary Sherlach, in the Sandy Hook massacre embraced Senator Brittany Pettersen after Governor Polis signed the Extreme Risk Protection Orders legislation.
I also continue to follow one of my favorite sports- football! Covering the Broncos this season can be brutal at times, but there are always moments that amaze. Young players Lindsay, Sutton, Chubb and Simmons pull off plays that are game-changers, revitalizing the team with their efforts. Seeing veterans like Derek Wolfe, Von Miller and Chris Harris playing their roles with strength and determination under their new coaching staff has made each game full of surprises.
