The University of Colorado’s live buffalo mascot, Ralphie, did not run before the football team’s home game against Stanford on Saturday, marking the second straight home game that officials decided to keep her off the field.

“Based on her temperament at Friday’s practice last night, we are just not comfortable with Ralphie running today,” John Graves, the Ralphie Program Manager, said in a tweet.

A similar message was tweeted before CU’s last home game on Oct. 25.

The Buffs played in California against UCLA on Nov. 2, but Ralphie does not travel to away games.

Ralphie V, the current Colorado mascot, and her handlers can reach speeds of 25 miles per hour when they run out before football games at Folsom Field in Boulder, according to CU’s athletics website.

“Whether or not Ralphie runs at a football game is at the sole discretion of the Program Manager, who may cancel it in the best interest and well-being of Ralphie,” the website says.
