DenverSportsOmelettelogoI don’t know a pinot from a zinfandel or the taste of a cheap boxed from an old, expensive bottle, but I do know that however you take your wine, you do so by drinking straight from the glass. At least, I hope so. And that’s why I couldn’t control my laughter watching Broncos linebacker Von Miller ask patrons at Guard and Grace, “Would you like straws with that?”

“I’m sorry, what?” the woman replied.

“The wine on the palate with the straw is magical,” Miller said. “A wooden straw.”

The genuine what-the-fudge reactions from people in what-the-fudge situations that Candid Camera first captured nearly 70 years ago never cease to get old, and Miller going undercover as a waiter to promote the “Taste of the Broncos” event is no exception. Miller, wearing the same wig he donned at minicamp Thursday, played the role of Benjamin, a waiter with no boundaries who’s unafraid to bless your food with holy water in a 3 minute, 30 second video posted on the team’s website.

You can watch the full video of Miller as an undercover waiter here.

“Yeah, it was fun. I think after about like 20 minutes they knew it was me, though,” Miller said Thursday. “But at first it was fun; I was making guys mad and stuff and eating off of people’s plates.”

Taste of the Broncos is a culinary festival featuring Broncos players working as servers – hopefully performing better than Miller did – handing out some of the best food Denver has to offer. Proceeds for the Sept. 10 event go to Food Bank of the Rockies, and tickets go on sale June 19 (this coming Tuesday).
